I chose this topper because I have worn a claddagh ring as a promise ring for about 5 years before I officially got engaged. the claddagh symbol is also engraved on my wedding band. So imagine my dissappointment when I opened it and it's MUCH smaller than it looks and it had the gap between the top and the base as mentioned in another review. The globs of glue don't help either. I still plan to use it, but I am really hoping the cake decorator can disguise the gap some how.

My fiance and I are having a Claddagh themed wedding and thought this would be the perfect adornment for our cake.
This item is very nice. This is ceramic and cast in two pieces. As other reviewers have said there is a gap between the pieces, but it's not very noticeable and works well with the design.
There is even a nice inscription on the bottom. "May your hands forever be blessed in friendship, and your hears joined forever in love".
It's about 5 inches high overall and weighs a few ounces.
Simple and elegant.

The cake topper was simple yet elegant. It was perfect for my daughter's St. Patrick's Day wedding. It arrived well within the shipping time frame we were given and added just the right touch to the cake for such a joyous occasion. Being a claddaugh instead of the tradition bride and groom, it is something they can use as a centerpiece or simply display in the china cabinet. It is something that can passed down to their children to use, as the claddaugh is the sign of love. What could be more fitting? Thank you for helping to make this wedding truly amazing.
Lovely design but disappointing qualityOct 06, 2010

I truly love the look of this cake topper, but the one I received seems to be defective: there's a noticeable gap between the base and the Claddaugh (see picture). I've returned the one I received and ordered another one because I like it so very much... in spite of the price, it doesn't look cheap at all otherwise. I especially love the quote on the bottom, "May your hands be forever blessed in friendship and your hearts joined forever in love." I will revise the review upon receiving the new item as to whether to expect the gap in all of them or if it was just a problem in my particular item.

Well, I'm glad that I waited to return the first topper until the second arrived so I could decide which was worse. I received the second item, and as I pulled it out of the Amazon box, I noticed that the box holding the new topper wasn't closed properly, as though someone had already opened it, looked at it, and returned it improperly closed (and no one had bothered to correct it before shipping it back out). Opened it up, and low and behold, there's the same gap but with the addition of dried hot glue coming out of large portions of the two long sides. I guess I'm going to send this one back instead... bummer. If there was another porcelain claddaugh topper that wasn't over 3x the cost of this one I'd go with it; otherwise, I recommend this one with reservations.

I purchased this for my daughter and son-in-law's wedding cake, and it just made the cake! They had a smaller, simple cake, and preferred clean and elegant lines, and so this was just perfect. It is traditional, modern, and if you are Irish, provides the touch of Celt that is needed at a wedding. The blessing on the bottom of the base is extra nice, and it can go on any color cake. I believe it could also be "dressed" by placing frosting flowers on or around it, as well. I highly recommend it, and it can be used over and over again after the wedding.
