 Perfect gift for your man!May 18, 2010

My husband's ancient sterling silver razor finally gave up after many years of toiling away on the beard. I searched everywhere and finally found this beautiful set that organizes razor, brush and soap in such a lovely way! I keep it out because it looks so chic and, certainly, having everything together makes for less mess. As sturdy as it is beautiful, he'll be using this for a long time to come. Now if I could only find something to clean off those whiskers in the sink!

Five stars for the stand and bowl, zero stars for the brush and razorJan 26, 2011

I recently bought a high quality Shavemac badger hair brush, and was looking for a nice stand to store and display it on. I almost bought a similar stand and bowl combo from the Shavemac website, but given the exchange rate between the euro and the dollar I decided to look for lower cost alternatives. I'm glad I did, because I found this set on Amazon for less. Plus, it came with a brush and a razor, which I figured I could use for traveling. Bonus!
However, once I received the set it was evident that the razor and brush were cheaply made. The brush bristles are stiff and coarse, and the brush handle is all metal, which makes it heavy and hard to work with. I decided to give it a try anyway since I needed a travel brush, so I took it on a week-long cruise with my wife. Multiple bristles were falling out every time I used it and it felt scratchy on my face, so I ended up chucking both the brush and the razor in favor of my own kit.
On the other hand, the stand and bowl are great. They seem durable, and look fantastic sitting on my sink with my Shavemac brush and my Merker long handled razor instead of the cheapies that came with the set. The Merker razor I'm using is this one:
Merkur Model 180 Long Handled Safety Razor
This razor easily fits in the razor stand with some room to spare in the two loops which hold the razor, in case you're considering using this stand for for a razor with a wider handle. Note that the handle still needs to have a slim profile though, a fat handled razor is not likely to fit as one unfortunate reader of this review discovered. See review comments for details.
The bottom line is this: Buy this set if you are looking for a nice, durable stand and bowl set for use with your own shave brush and razor. Don't expect much from the included razor and brush though.

I can not find razor cartridges that fit this razor!! It looks very attractive.. But, serves no purpose if it cant be used. Uggh.
