Expensive but worth itAug 01, 2011

When I first saw the price of this item, I was shocked. $60 for a... cocktail shaker?!
But the money was well spent. I've owned a fair number of cocktail shakers, and this is *by far* my favorite.
The design is (in concept) similar to using a metal shaker bottom with an upside-down glass as a lid, as you'll sometimes see professional bartenders do. (I've heard this design called a "Boston shaker" although I don't know if that term is widespread). Although this shaker is all steel, the lid fits into the bottom like an upside-down glass would. There is no lip or plastic seal; they just press together.
The result of this is that the shaker does not leak when you use it. I cannot stress that enough. It. Does. Not. Leak. Not even a tiny bit, and that is the biggest reason that it's my favorite shaker.
It is also well constructed and solid feeling - you know when you pick it up that it isn't a cheap liquor store shaker. It's a pleasure to use.
"3 Component design" in the description simply means that the lid is actually two pieces - the main lid, and a cap that fits on top. Similar to most shakers, you can pop off just the small lid, and pour through a strainer built in to the main lid. One nice touch: The cap is shaped so that it holds 1/2 jigger on one side, and a full jigger on the other side - so you can use the cap to measure instead of a seperate jigger.
In response to the reviews that the lid can get stuck: This goes back to the "it doesn't leak" feature. :-) It seals so well that if you chill a lot of liquid in it by a fair amount, it forms a partial vacuum holding the lid to the base. (It's air tight and getting a lot colder inside when you shake with ice). So it's not that the lid doesn't fit correctly or something that causes occasional sticking - it's air tight coldness. (And you *can* still get the lid off when this happens, it's just a lot harder to pull off).
I find that if I'm making a martini-sized drink or start with cold ingredients, it's no issue, but if I'm making a larger volume drink with room temperature ingredients, it becomes a problem. For a big/warm drink, I now shake once or twice, briefly crack open the cap to let some air in, then shake til my heart's content, and the cap/lid never sticks. Again, this is just caused because the shaker seals so very well - which I think is it's best feature.

By J. Brown First, we purchased an inexpensive ($10) cocktail shaker at a liquor store. Guess what, it leaked when it was shaken. So, I wanted quality. I read all the reviews on Amazon. Then I saw this. Rosle. I know this is a quality brand. But the price. Really? Really. It was worth it.
It does not leak. And it is a 3 part shaker (the lid has two pieces - a cover and the part with holes to dispense the drink and the body makes three pieces). The drink is icy cold, the dispenser is clean, and it does not leak when shaken.
Yeah, it is $60, but man this will last a long time.

It's perfect!Jan 10, 2009
By R. Fortune The design of this shaker makes you wonder what in the heck the common design is even used for. Couple that with the thick, sturdy quality & lovely look & it's just hands-down the best shaker I've ever found. The price is up there, but if you can justify the purchase: do! It will last forever & you'll always be glad you didn't end up with a crummy one ... or two ... or more, over the years.

I tried many and this is the bestOct 29, 2010
By D. King I put water in models from Oxo and Alessi and they leaked, as did my groovy penguin-shaped shaker. This is water tight. Style is subjective but I think this looks groovy. The insulation isn't aerospace quality but it makes a noticeable difference. I have been using this for months and am still in love.

Shake It Up!Jun 11, 2007
By Rodney D. Pruitt Love it! Sometime requires a little muscle to remove lid, but other than that works great and looks great!
