Make better drinksMay 02, 2000
By strummer This shaker is extremely useful in a variety of scenarios. The after-work, wind-down cocktail. The pre-party, warm-up drink. The after-dinner drink. Even the weekend-long bender (just kidding of course). The dial is easy to twist and turn and the drink recipes are easy to read. Even over time and repeated use. The built-in strainer can't be beat if you've got citrus and ice in the mix. The drink recipes run the gamut from the standard (martini) to the weird (the aforementioned between the sheets). Heck, it even works for drinks whose recipes aren't on the side of the shaker. My only buying advice would be to buy two of these. Depending on your thirst, frame of mind or company this'll only do for two drinks at a time. For the party person in you, you'll want to be more flexible with your drink mixing.

large and easy to use . . . stylish tooJun 16, 2000
By Michael Beatrice I've only had this shaker for a few days, but I already love it. The other reviewer was a bit misleading I think. Most of us in the US don't know exactly how much a liter is. That's about 34 ounces. He mentioned that you should buy two of these because you can only make two drinks at a time. The only time this is true is if you're going to be making the "ultimate" sized cocktails. In a normal situation you can get 3 healthy sized drinks out of this guy. The shaker itself feels sturdy in your grip. It's a bit on the large size (i'm used to 16-24oz shakers... ) so you can't really hold it in the "traditional" way with your pinkies crossed and all, but ... so what? The dial-a-drink is a nice feature, but most of the drinks on there aren't exactly the most ordered. In a way that's a good thing because if someone happens to want a drink that's on there you won't have to dig out your drink book. So there you have it. It's big, looks great and works great. If you are in need of a shaker and you want something that even looks cool when it's not in use, then this is definitely something you should consider.

Things fall apartSep 24, 2001
I hate to be the voice of disappointment, because I had high hopes for this critter. But I'm a little disappointed. Out of the box, it was a little clumsy. The sheath with the holes cut in it fits pretty loosely, and is secured only near the base. That meant it wobbled a little in my hands when I was holding it, which was kinda annoying -- not criminally unpleasant, but irritating, and if I'd been using it all night, it might have led to spillage if you know what I mean. But then I used this thing twice, maybe three times, before the metal sheath with the holes cut in it pulled free of the shaker body. That was irritating -- it looks kinda goofy like that, and it's difficult to make any use of the recipes at this point. The capacity is great -- it's perfect for a bunch of guests. And the look is pretty good, even without the sheath, if you're not close enough to notice the writing. I continue to use it, but it doesn't sit on my countertop longer than it takes to get washed, and it's now a "behind the bar" toy. At 4.5 stars, I expected much better.

Even though we rarely use the "dial-a-drink" feature, it's a fun item and works quite well no matter what you're mixing. (Lately I've been using it to whip cream for tiramisu. ) My only complaint is that it takes me forever to get the lid off, but maybe I'm just a wimp. I agree that it's big enough to mix three drinks at a whack, and the stainless steel seems to be of decent quality.

I might be repeating some of the other reviewers' thoughts about this extremely hip shaker, but I really like this thing! We don't use the dial-a-drink feature of the shaker, but everyone who visits us just loves to play around with it. The dial feature is a bit hard to read if the light is hitting the shaker directly, but it looks so cool that you won't even care. It holds a lot of liquid, so making big drinks is a snap. I agree with the reviewer who commented that the top is hard to remove--that's entirely true. Granted, you wouldn't want the top to be loose enough to sling booze all over the place, but you also don't want to have to be The Hulk to get it open. A friend of mine has had his for a while now, and it's very hard to open it--might have something to do with the age. On a funny side note, it makes the best chocolate milk! Pour in your milk, add you favorite choco powder, and shake. The strainer top keeps distributing the powder around, so those clumps of unmixed powder will be a thing of the past--no need for a noisy blender. While I haven't yet used it to make smoothies, a friend of mine who owns one has said that this shaker does that quite well also... (we'll have to test that one out). This makes an great gift and conversation piece!
