Good product, but cheaper direct from FoodSaver!Sep 08, 2004

I've been quite happy with all my foodsaver products...While I'm not sure the bottle stoppers do much more for my olive oil than a regular 'ol cork, I do use them on my scotch, and whether it does anything or not, I feel better about it.
My only complaint? The product...and the shipping...is cheaper direct from Foodsaver.com. While I know the mention of price and alternate provider is not really permitted per the review guidelines, I still think it's important to say, even if the only person who sees it is the person who reviews this comment...

The simple bottle stopper is one of the most valuable of the accessories for your FoodSaver. They work wonderfully for both wines and oils.
We enjoy wine with out dinner several times a week. One of the problems we have had is that the wine left in the bottle often turned to vinegar before we finished it. Using the FoodSaver bottle stoppers has changed that. Wines stay good for two months, either in the refrigerator or pantry. Yes, I have tried a red for that long and compared it with a freshly opened one from my wine keeper. We have shifted to the 1.5 liter bottles of everyday chardonnay from the .75-liter. This alone will save us over $50 a year.
Oils are another use of the bottle stoppers. Whether you realize it or not, oils start to turn after about six months of being opened (3 months for nut oils such as walnut). Although we buy small containers of oil, they normally last well beyond their shelf life except for the olive oil. Consequently, we use the bottle stoppers for the other oils including the peanut, walnut, canola, truffle-infused, chili and sesame oils. (Remember to keep the sesame oil in the refrigerator, even with the bottle stopper.)
If you like wine or cook with a variety of oils these little jewels will pay for themselves in short order.

Excellent product that does preserve the character of Big Italian Red Wines for 72 hoursJul 13, 2006

An avid home cook that is a collector of both cookbooks and cooking gadgets writes this review. I purchased this product these stoppers as a replacement for the substandard Vacu-Vin stoppers. I have summarized my observations of this product below:
Pros:
1. Allows me to keep an opened bottle of Brunello in the house for three days without a lose of the wine's character
2. Small size means it is easy to store
3. Easy to clean by hand and is dishwasher safe (plastic has not been stained by the red wine in 2 years of use)
4. Definitely seals the bottles, since I return them to my glass front wine cellar I would notice if they were to leak
5. Can also be used to seal olive oil or any other bottle
Cons:
1. Limited usefulness, it would not be the first kitchen gadget on my list
Overall, if you like red wine but never finish a bottle, this is great product to have on hand. My only regret is that I didn't purchase this product first instead of the substandard Vacu-Vin product that allowed the wine to leak out of the bottle and into my wine cellar when I tried to store opened "sealed" bottles on their side.

I am appreciative of the ability to save space in my freezer and prevent freezer burn, but as a wine enthusiast -- these stoppers are one of my favorites. I've been using the manual pump stoppers and there is no comparison. These provide a tighter seal and do not lose the vacuum as easily. FoodSaver suggests that you store the bottles upright to keep the vacuum.
I usually have two or three bottles open at time and I obviously can't drink them fast enough before they go bad. These stoppers are a lifesaver! They do not come with an accessory hose, so if you do not have one, you will need to purchase one.
I highly recommed these to everyone with a FoodSaver.

They work for me. The Foodsaver imstructions tell you that the bottle needs to be kept upright in order to maintain the vacuum seal. Some have complained about leakage but a bottle that's kept upright usually doesn't leak.
They work great for me and my purposes --- I just want to keep wines and oils fresh after they're been opened and, with this stopper in place, the bottles sit happily on my pantry shelf all sealed and protected until I want to use it again.
My only peeve is that they only fit narrow-neck bottles. They work in wine and liquer bottles but not in the larger-necked oil bottles. I save empty narrow-neck bottles and transfer oils into them but the Foodsaver company would make me very happy if they made a larger sized cork for oil, juice and syrup bottles.
